From the desk of. . Bill Ferguson . . . May 24, 2001 Dear Bookstore Staff, Some months ago Michael Beale, our
Board President, came to me with a very
enthusiastic report of a book he had read. LOVE WITHOUT END, by Glenda Green. It
sounded interesting to me so we ordered it. When it came in, he was telling people about
it in the bookstore and we have sold three copies just on his recommendations. I asked
him to do a review for us, which he very willingly agreed to do. He is talking about using
it in a "share group" sometime this summer. Please keep your ears open if you hear anyone mention a book that has been meaningful to them. Ask questions and get information. It just may be something we should provide for our congregation and our community. This is everyone's bookstore and we want them to be a part of it. Michael’s enthusiasm is a perfect example. Among the new releases from Unity House this month is a cassette entitled
ABUNDANCE WITHOUT LIMITS, by Norma Rosado. (See review to the right.) I have
not been aware of Rev. Rosado but I understand she is a well-known author, lecturer, and
motivational speaker. Prior to joining Unity School, she led the Associacion Unity de
Christianismo Practico in Puerto Rico, the oldest Spanish-speaking church in the Unity
movement. She served as chair of the Board of Trustees for the Association of Unity
Churches and acted as the international director for Latin American Unity churches and
study groups. In 2000 she received the Paul Harris Fellowship Award from Rotary
International.
Interesting note--or it was for me. About a week ago Rev. Nancy Neale (retired minister of the Jamestown church,) was in our bookstore during the week and purchased a copy of THE INNER CORE (See review to the right.). I would love to see her do a class on this book. She would really be good explaining mystical Christianity. I had a very nice note from Ellen Duke of the Association of Unity Churches. If you remember she was a guest in our church a few weeks ago and did a workshop for the Board and Finance Committee on Planned Giving. Her note expressed how impressed she was with our bookstore, our presentation and selections. She visits a lot of Unity churches, so I am flattered. She even purchased one of our Prayer for Protection magnets. She also gave me a good resource for angel items that I think we will order. I acknowledged her note via e-mail and commented how helpful it would be if we could, some how, communicate with other bookstores across the country and exchange ideas. She thought that was a great idea and is going to bring it up at an association meeting. Perhaps it can be done through AUC's web site. Speaking of the magnets, did you know that for a while those were ours exclusively? I contacted the company and asked them it they would do the Prayer for Protection for us. He agreed to do a custom magnet if we would order 100 or more, which we did. He was so impressed with them, he changed the design just a little and put them in his new catalog. He tells me they are selling very well. And, not to just Unity bookstores, but to all kinds of outlets. I am finding myself in a very interesting situation. Even with my limited reading time, I am trying to read two books at the same time. Because of my interest and participation on the Prayer Team and the Pastoral Services Team I started reading Charles and Cora Fillmore's book, TEACH US TO PRAY. This is a book I have wanted to read for a long time, but because I find Charles Fillmore difficult to read I have put it off. The reason it is hard for me to read his works is because every sentence is a revelation. I simple devour every sentence, therefore it takes a long time to get through his books. I am loving this one and look forward to every few minutes I have to devote to it. Then, I decided I wanted to take Joyce Powell's class on SPIRITUAL ECONOMICS, by Eric Butterworth, so I started on it. Rev. Butterworth is such a terrific writer, speaker and thinker, I am enjoying every chapter. You cannot read anything written by him that doesn't make you feel good about yourself. And his tapes are really good to listen to in the car. (This book is being taught at Unity Center and at the Jamestown church at the same time. This could not have been a coincident. This has to be the work of Spirit.) Now, Unity House has come out with a new book that I can hardly wait to get into. I have always been intrigued by the mystics and Mystical Christianity. This new book explores mysticism and spirituality and offers step-by-step guidelines to develop greater awareness. . . .May 5, 2001
