Early writings on the twelve powers go back to the work of New Thought pioneers Emma Curtis Hopkins and Annie Rix Militz in the late nineteenth century. Charles and Myrtle Fillmore, Unity's co founders, were part of a group of metaphysicians who experimented with and discussed these ideas. Charles wrote early articles about inner power, and his book Christian Healing (1909) discusses some of these powers, although his ideas were not yet fully formed. On April 24, 1912, he published in Weekly Unity the introduction of what was to become his book "The Twelve Powers of Man". This introduction proved popular and was reprinted several times. In 1920 Charles published the series "The Twelve Powers of Man," and it was reprinted in 1925-26 and 1929-30 in Unity Magazine.

Power Stones are not all powerfull symbols that you simply hold onto and bam, magic is worked. Each stone has its special ability that can be used to help you focus your energies to accomplish a certain task. It is through this concentration of energy that the stone helps you work your magic. Use them as a visualization tool. Visualize the stone you are using to manifest the desired results. , e.g. "My sick friend is full of strength", or "My mood is changing to one of love". Lay one in a place you will see it often. Each time you see the colorful stone you will be reminded of greater imagination, or divine order, or strong faith. You who are responsible for children's mental and spiritual development can help them, early in life, to an awareness of the presence of these two forces within them. The classic fairy tales, with their often frightening and gruesome incidents, usually have the saving grace of ending with good overcoming evil. However, the fairy tales lead children to believe that people are either all good or all bad. This is a false and harmful impression, and not at all necessary to prove that virtue conquers vice. When grown-ups squirm at the thought of discussing sex with children, it suggests that there may be something wrong about sex. And to suggest that there is something wrong about sex is to imply that there is something wrong about God, the Creator of sex.

We are living in a world where God's part of our creation and in our daily lives is being de-emphasized in the adoration of man's scientific achievements, We are worshipping the creature instead of the Creator, seemingly unaware that it is the Creator who keeps the creature's heart beating and his mind working.

We miss the glory and the meaning of God's truly priceless gift, procreation, when we leave God out of the picture. Reverently should we appreciate that in this vital matter, God has made us, in a very real sense, co-creators with Him. Even if no offspring is contemplated, an awareness of God's presence and participation (as the Creative Spirit of selfless love) in the physical union of husband and wife is essential to its completeness and ecstasy. When it becomes second-nature to a child to seek the guidance of the divine part of his nature, normal and healthy reactions to all matters, including sex, can be predicted.
